Abstract

|
Objectives: This study examined issues related to cohabitation after divorce, exploring implications for the education of and counseling for people who are part of that population.
Methods: The author conducted a literature review of studies related to post-divorce cohabitation. The focus included research from the 1990s to the present; however, the scope extended to foreign countries, as the topic has not been studied in South Korea. The researcher examined positive and negative aspects of post-divorce cohabitation and suggested implications for education and counseling with cohabiting individuals and couples.
Results: Although many studies reported primarily negative effects of post-divorce cohabitation, positive effects were also brought forth.
Conclusions: Given the rising divorce rate, therapists need to pay attention to social and academic issues related to post-divorce cohabitation. Research results can help guide the education and counseling of cohabitating individuals and couples.
